Is it just me or did they completely drop the ball? it captured none of the magic or intensity that the live show is famous for. It's the only cd that dose nothing for me. Witch sucks because it's my second fave production from CDS.

I enjoy it as a piece of art. However I think with this album they were taking a different perspective.

I know what you mean. The songs on the album seem kind of 'bare'compared to the live versions. Nonetheless still a great listen, though I do like Rain One and Emballa.

It was recorded back during the time when Guy L. was into EDMusic and partying. So he felt the music should take a more "electronica" tone. (Also see the Cirque "Solarium/Delirium" remix project).
I interviewed composer Corradi and asked her about it, her response - “For Varekai it was an executive decision to work with [CD Producer Nitin Sawhney]. We had an intimate dinner at Guy’s house in Montréal with Nitin and Bruno Gaez (who was the Musical Director at the time). And Guy felt [there] was a new tone for Cirque du Soleil starting with Varekai, because (Cirque Co-Founder and first Company President) Daniel Gauthier had left and it was the first show that had been created without him. It was Guy’s desire to explore other avenues and he asked me if I would feel comfortable with that. And I said yeah, I approved it. It was great, it was a fantastic encounter and I think it spoke for itself. It [was in] the Top 5 in Billboards World Music section for weeks."
Look out for a "limited edition" 3-CD set of the soundtrack, which included six tracks of music that don't appear on the "official" CD, taken from the (unedited) soundtrack for the DVD. -Keith J.

Honestly, I quite enjoy the CD! However, I think of it more as a very good standalone CD, from a non-Cirque perspective. From a Cirque perspective, obviously, it's a little weaker.
